GOVERNMENT CLASS: SECTION II

GOVERNMENT

GOVERNMENT SYLABUS FOR JANUARY

Lesson 1-3  Complete by JANUARY 27

Answer the following questions;

Lesson 1

A. What did the founders think about the Constitutional Government?

B. What are  FIVE types of Government? How are they different?

C. Choose one: Alexander Hamilton, Benjamin Franklin or George Mason.  What did they have to do with the constitution?

Lesson 2.

A. What is classical republicanism, inalienable rights, popular sovereignty, and pursuit of happiness?

B. What was the role of philosophy in the study of government?

C. Make a chart. Show the differences between classical republicanism and natural rights philosophy.

Lesson 3

A. define: capitalism, nation-state, private morality, public morality, feudalism, Judeo-Christian, city-state

B. Pick a religious or Political figure from this lesson and write a short synopsis about their influence on early government. (pages 21-23)

C. What was the new system called; “Capitalism? (pg 23-24)

ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED IN  A ONE SUBJECT NOTEBOOK.

ALL WORK MUST  BE TURNED IN ON TIME FOR FULL CREDIT.

Each day late is 10 points off. No work will be accepted after 3 days late.

All writing must be in full and complete sentences.

1. What is the Magna Carta? How was it created? How did it contribute to the constitutional government?

2. How do our national, state, or local governments establish law?  How do they make the laws known?

3. Why must judges be indifferent or impartial?  Why must they settle difference according to law and not according to their own beliefs or wishes?

LESSON 5

1. In three paragraphs answer the critical thinking exercise on page 39

2. What was the Mayflower compact? Why was it drafted?

3. Describe/Explain Terms and concepts on page 35

LESSON 6

1. Describe explain terms and concepts on page 43

2. On page 48   under Reviewing and using the lesson, answer questions 1-3

ALL WORK MUST BE COMPLETED IN  A ONE SUBJECT NOTEBOOK.

ALL WORK MUST  BE TURNED IN ON TIME FOR FULL CREDIT.

2. Pg 80-81  Summarize ; (1) What the delegates thought about the balance of power in the branches of government, (2) What the delegates thought about legislative power, (3) What the delegates though about executive power.

Chap 12

1. Pg 85  Terms and Concepts: Define

2. Pg 87  What limits did the delegates place on the government?

3. Pg 89 Critical Thinking Exercise: #’s 1 & 2  Your opinion please.
